Sustainability is here to stay

Sustainability is not something we see as an extra effort, but a natural basis for all our operations, the only feasible way of doing business. Therefore, we choose local partners that cultivate sustainable approaches. This, for instance,  includes those from the hospitality industry who implement various sustainable policies such as not using plastic, saving water and, last but not least, basing their menus exclusively on food grown at small local farms that come from a radius not bigger than 30 km. Our events and travel packages often involve activities with social and planet-friendly orientation or close collaboration with locals. These are just some of the many sustainable ways in which our partners and we tie our business to local communities, along with protecting all things we hold most dear: nature, people, and their culture.

Tatjana John

MANAGING DIRECTOR & OWNER
CDMP / CERTIFIED DIVERSE MEETING PLANNER

 

Tatjana John is the managing director & owner of Spicy Events. With 23 years of working experience in the hotel industry, Tatjana John is one of the MICE pioneers in Croatia.

She was part of a core team that opened Dubrovnik Palace, the city’s first congress hotel. Tatjana assisted in the opening and rebranding of several other hotels in Dubrovnik. Her portfolio includes organizing almost 1000 meetings, congresses, incentives, exhibitions, circular travel programs, and other special events and programs. Tatjana’s organization of the summits and international governmental meetings earned her official recognition and accolades.

On behalf of the Croatian Ministry of Tourism, Tatjana created a curriculum and personally certified all the certified diverse meeting planners, including destination and event specialists, professional congress organizers, and various travel agents. She often lectures on the new trends and specific issues of the MICE industry, with a special emphasis on risk and crisis management.

With a firm belief that no two MICE events should be the same, in 2018 she founded Spicy Events, a DMC and MICE company whose mission is to create absolutely customized events and special programs in Croatia.

Formally educated as a linguist, Tatjana is a great aficionado of French culture and classic Italian cinema.

Branka Grizelj

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

Branka Grizelj is a senior project manager at Spicy Events. With a degree in tourism communication, she has extensive experience in various hospitality branches.
For over 15 years, Branka has been working in the MICE industry where she is known for her her analytical and problem-solving skills. At Spicy Events, she is in charge of quality management, overseeing and coordinating all operational and administrative tasks and activities. Aligning everyday operations with the company’s long-term goals, Branka also manages and takes care of every group from the beginning to the end.
In her spare time, Branka loves to travel. She is also an avid reader.

Ana Matić

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

Ana Matić is a senior project manager at Spicy Events for the UK and Scandinavian markets. With degrees in hospitality and environmental management, Ana naturally focuses on various aspects of MICE sustainability, such as strengthening the local businesses with an emphasis on protecting local natural resources and social impact.  She has extensive experience in coordinating and optimizing international teams, including global humanitarian networks and international business companies. She is often contracted as a location manager and fixer by the likes of Netflix, Silverback Productions, Zero Zero Production, NBC Network, CBS Network, and others.
With over 15 years of experience in the MICE industry, Ana has organized many international conferences and conventions, created many teambuilding programs and incentives, and managed the MICE domain for various Croatian traveling and MICE companies, as well as hotels.
As an out-of-the-box thinker that has been nourished by interdisciplinary background, Ana also teaches social entrepreneurship and networking at a start-up academy. She is keen on automotive events, traveling, exploring, immersing in other cultures, cooking, diving, and yoga. In her spare time, she tends to her vineyard and olive orchard on Pelješac Peninsula.
